Julianna Bloodgood
JULIANNA (she/her) is a vocalist, movement artist, performer and teacher whose work includes anthropological performance research and she has traveled the globe in search of different cultural and spiritual perspectives on the body, voice and the ritual of performance. The performances she creates are made as rituals, meant to be shared experiences of transformation and healing.
The core of her work is a detailed practice in the relationship between body and voice and how this can be brought to expression which she calls Embodied Voice Practices. This practice utilizes integrative somatic trauma therapy techniques and focuses the output in vocal expression, which is a deeply healing and transformative process.
1. THE VOICE OF RELEASE - Through a flow of movement and breath we will awaken sound vibrations within the body - resonating the bones and tissues- creating a visceral understanding of the voice and enlivening new possibilities for vocal and heart expression. Then, through shared and held space, witness and support of community and the powerful act of vocalizing, our feelings can become a thing of beauty that we can transform and release. Keywords: Breathwork, movement, voice release, no nudity, no partner needed, high intensity.
2. THE SACRED CRY – LAMENT AS RITUAL - Lament is an ancient, ritualized way of giving voice to grief, longing, and love that cannot be held in silence. In this workshop, lament is approached as an embodied vocal practice that allows emotion to move through the body with support and structure. Through gentle somatic preparation, breathwork, and vocal opening, participants are guided to move from breath to tone and into cry, the voice becomes a channel for emotional release. The practice culminates in a collective lament ritual, where sound is expressed and witnessed within a held group space. This process is non-performative and choice-based, emphasizing containment and nervous system regulation rather than emotional overwhelm. The workshop closes with grounding and integration. Keywords: Breathwork, movement, ritual voice, emotional release, no nudity, no partner needed, emotional intensity.
3. ANCESTRAL VOICE - A somatic (body/psyche/spirit) and vocal practice that guides participants through physical movements that mimic patterns of development within the mother’s womb. Then there is a kind of re-emerging process. In this vulnerable state we invoke the ancestors in a ritual way and through a process of vocalizing we “channel” messages from our ancestors. It is a powerful process or both integration and channeling. Keywords: Breathwork, movement, voice release, no nudity, no partner needed, emotional intensity.
